Nathan Yu

    Managing Partner

    Mr. Nathan Yu has over 25 years of experience in global automotive and automotive parts enterprises. He currently is a managing partner of NIO Capital, an investment committee member, and is responsible for automotive industry fund investment and post-investment management. In addition, Mr. Yu is also responsible for overall investment strategy and supervision of day-to-day operations of the fund.

    Before joining NIO Capital, he served as a Vice President of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, in charge of four business segments including international M&A, Geely’s Volvo alliance, new energy vehicles, and the Lynk & Co (Taizhou) manufacturing base. In addition, he led or assisted in the acquisitions of Malaysia Proton, Terrafugia (a U.S. based flying-car developer), South Korea’s LG battery production line and VIA new energy trucks in the United States. He participated in the purchase of shares from Daimler-Benz AG. Moreover, He led or assisted the cooperative negotiations held, and agreements signed, between Volvo and Geely on joint development of the Lynk & Co brand and between Volvo and London Taxi Company (LTC) on joint development of range-extended electric vehicles (REEV). He guided the Volvo-Geely NEV joint purchasing team in participating and leading the development and launch of Emgrand BEV, while leading the development of various NEV parts suppliers in China, such as Jing-Jin Electric (JJE), CATL, UAES and others.

    Mr. Yu has rich experience in management of large-scale enterprises. He formerly assumed office as a Vice President of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, a President for Asia-Pacific region at FPT Industrial, a Director of Global Supplier Development at General Dynamics, International Engineering Project Manager at DCAG, an Engineer at Mechatronics Institute: China National Ministry of Mechanical Industry and various other positions. In addition, he served as the Chairman of Terrafugia, Chairman of Viridi E-Mobility Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd, a Director of Malaysia Proton, a Director of Lotus Cars, the Chairman of Asia-pacific region at FPT Industrial and other positions.

    Mr. Yu Ning graduated from the University of Windsor in Canada with a master’s degree in industrial engineering. Before that, he obtained his bachelor of engineering from Taiyuan University of Science and Technology (TYUST) and has been awarded honorable master’s and doctor’s degree in vehicle engineering from China Agricultural University. Mr. Yu placed second in the State Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, along with the first prize awarded by the Chinese National Machinery Ministry for Scientific and Technological Progress, and an Excellent Operator award in Jiading District, Shanghai.
